A.  Ask a Lawyer from Avvo.com
  • Laypersons may anonymously post as many questions as they would like at no charge
  • Attorneys respond with answers within 12 hours on average
  • The Ask a Lawyer feature is designed for general legal questions, not questions with many details
  • Avvo also has a Instant Phone Call feature, where you may have a conversation with an attorney for 15 minutes at the cost of $39

B.  Mootus
  • Mootus describes itself as a platform for "open legal argument" for law students and practicing attorneys
  • Users post issues they would like debated.  Other users respond by posting citations to cases, statutes or regulations they believe either support or refute the issue
  • On Mootus, there is no charge to follow and answer issues.  While it is free to add one issue, there is a charge to add issues beyond that

C. Casetext for annotated case law
  • Casetext allows attorney-users to search case law at no charge.  The special feature is that users add descriptions, tags and annotations to the cases

D.  Jurify
  • On Jurify, attorney-members contribute cases and other legal documents which they have found useful in their practice
  • Jurify is restricted to corporate law, governance mergers and acquisitions and securities
  • Basic membership is free.  However, there is a charge if you would like to access forms and some other types of documents
